In a sad and startling announcement, Chicago music veteran (and yes, I think the word legend is fair to use) Brian St.Clair announced via The Chicagoist that he’s recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Part of his statement to The Chicagoist reads:

“I’m only 45 so this was a huge wake up call for me. I’m hoping to raise awareness that it’s not just men in their 60s and beyond who are being diagnosed with this. I’m proof that even a younger man that is fit, active, and eats right can be stricken by this disease.”

St.Clair went on to explain that he’ll be undergoing treatment the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit and it seems as though he plans to take this opportunity to spread awareness on prostate cancer and how it can affect young, fit, healthy men.

While St.Clair may be undergoing treatment, he made it clear he has many plans, professional and otherwise. While he did leave leave Local H last year, he has been busy with his company, Tour Time Productions, and clients Cheap Trick and Liz Phair.

On an absolutely personal level, Brian is one of the most genuinely kind people I’ve ever met, in the music industry or otherwise. Local H is the reason I met the most significant person my life has ever known and Brian was one of his dearest and most cherished friends. I cannot say enough how much I wish Brian a speedy recovery and send hugs, positive thoughts, prayers, good vibes, and all varieties of happy thoughts to he and his family!.
