Our Christmas Playlist

For the better part of the past month we’ve had Christmas music playing non-stop ’round Thirty Roses HQ. It’s an odd position to be in when you love Christmas music, love buying and wrapping Christmas gifts, but hate Christmas. What can we say, other than we’ve a complicated group here at Thirty Roses.

At any rate, we’d like to share some of our favourite tracks with you. Some traditional, some not so traditional, and some so sad you’ll be want to spend Christmas day in your house sobbing uncontrollably.

This is quite possibly the saddest Christmas-ish song ever. Ever.

‘This year’s for me and you, so happy Christmas…’

Some versions of this song are performed in such a way that you feel the singer wishing you a lovely holiday. Judy Garland’s version manages to bring up all the loneliness, heartbreak, and tragedy of missing someone during Christmastime. And she does it with the exact same lyrics everyone else sings. It’s perfect.

And now for something a bit more playful…and from Fiona Apple, of all people!

For those who hate everything about the entire Christmas season…

‘Last Christmas’…but not the Wham! version (we’d never do that to you!)

Do you remember when U2 stood for something other than multinational corporate ownersh
ip? We do, too!

For our dear friend, Jeremy…

Again, a song that reminds you why the holiday season is just as sad as it is joyful.

This doesn’t need an introduction, does it?

A slowed down, slightly more depressing version of one of the oldest holiday songs in the world.

Weezer!

This isn’t really a Christmas song but it isn’t *not* a Christmas song..

One of our favourite tracks from ‘Maybe This Christmas Tree.’

And the pièce de résistance…Radiohead! Silly, Christmas carol singing Radiohead!

We hope you like some of our favourite Christmas songs. What are some of yours?

~XO
