Happy Weekend, Kintsugi Stylee!

Did you happen to catch Death Cab For Cutie on David Letterman yesterday? Fear not if you missed it, we have the video for you right here! The band performed Black Sun from their upcoming record Kintsugi. Kintsugi is an interesting thing; it’s the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. While those of us in America have a tendency to try to repair such cracks to look flawless, using clear glue and trying our best to leave no trace of a crack, Kintsugi draws attention to the cracks with ornate gold. The idea is that the cracks and subsequent repair will ultimately leave the piece stronger than it was originally and that should be celebrated rather than hidden. So how does this relate to Death Cab For Cutie? Bassist Nick Harmer told Rolling Stone: “It’s making the repair of an object a visual part of its history, that resonated with us as a philosophy, and it connected to a lot of what we were going through, both professionally and personally.”

Kintsugi is released March 31.
