Artists We Love: The Duke Spirit and Roman Remains
24th February 2014 • No commentsThis is our first ever Artists We Love double feature! The Duke Spirit are a London based band who have been making great music for many years now. Since the release of their 2003 debut EP Darling, You’re Mean, everything the band have released over the course of their career has been pretty stellar. Simply put, they’re just a great alternative-type rock band; comparable to Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Band of Skulls. Frontwoman and vocalist Liela Moss’ voice is a blend of a little Debbie Harry, a little PJ Harvey, a tiny bit Sandie Shaw, the sultriness of Dusty Springfield all mixed together with her own style and personality. Moss and bandmates Luke Ford (guitar/keyboard/vocals), Olly Betts (drums), Dan Higgins (guitar), and Toby Butler (bass) are definitely the most well established band to be featured on Artists We Love and have been very well received in the UK. As is often the case, the US is dreadfully late to the party and the band haven’t gotten as much attention Stateside. The band haven’t released an album since 2011’s Bruiser (unless you’re into semantics and you’d like to count the 2012 Bruiser Remixed album) because Liela Moss and Toby Butler have been working on their other project……
Roman Remains! (see, two Artists We Love in one!!!)
Roman Remains are a bit more electronic, a bit less rock than The Duke Spirit, but still great! They’ve been playing a lot of shows around Los Angeles of late and will begin a proper tour of the US in the next week or so. There is a Roman Remains EP available for purchase already and the duo’s first album drops 4 March and is available for pre-order.
As stated, Roman Remains are heading out on tour in support of their debut, Zeal, so be sure to catch them in a town near you!
