Float On

Greetings, lovelies. It seems America is in something of a post-apocalyptic state these past few days. First, the tragic bombing in Boston. Next, the plant explosion in Texas. Now, on a far less tragic note, Chicago is under water. Expressways are closed, sandbags are out, and water levels are so high, cars are almost submerged.
Additionally, a local woman was laid to rest yesterday after being killed in a bombing in Afghanistan. Anne Smedinghoff was a diplomat and in Afghanistan bringing books to children.
Subsequently, her hometown of River Forest, IL has been lined in flags and white ribbons to honour both her life and her sacrifice.

The one nice thing about national tragedies and weather disasters is that, for a brief moment, there is a sense of community that is greatly lacking when things settle and we can get wrapped up in our individual lives again.
For now, we’re sticking together, which is a wonderful thing. I suppose it’s fortunate we’re all as resilient as we are.
Even when we don’t want to be, we have to be.

There are simple things we can do to stay united always; not just when tragedy strikes.
