Artists We Love: Dame Haze12th January 2014 • No comments
Dame Haze is a Chicago based artist, and one you should start paying attention to now! We first became acquainted with Dame and his music at a Grammy member event featuring Young Guru. Dame introduced himself to me and gave me a copy of his (at that point) soon to be released EP. Reluctantly I gave it a listen on the drive home. It wasn’t that I doubted anything Dame had said to me during our introductory chat, it was more a matter of me expecting more of the same, been there, heard that rap. I was so elated to be wrong! Dame’s music is broad enough to engage fans of multiple genres; he and his creative team spent such careful attention to quality and performance that rap fans will be pleased, as will R & B listeners, and even people who don’t delve into those genres a great deal.
Dame avoids the traps of trying to emulate other artists and isn’t afraid to draw inspiration from hip hop, reggae, or anywhere else. Track No Time is likely to be a favourite among rap fans, and was also a big hit in the club scene, while my favourite track, Lipstick, is a bit more R & B with a slight touch of soul. Meanwhile, latest single WhenEva WhereEva continues to gain popularity on Chicago radio.
Dame Haze is a new artist and hasn’t yet begun a full promotional push; when that happens, watch out, world!
