Artists We Love: Parlours5th November 2013 • No comments
We are so excited to share with you Des Moines, Iowa based Parlours. You may not know of Parlours by name, but fans of the television show Chicago Code have undoubtedly heard their music. Their track ‘I Dream of Chicago‘ was featured at the end of the season finale this past spring.
That opportunity launched this once small town band into the national spotlight and created a whole new audience for them. It led to their first ever shows in Chicago and landed them a featured artist spot on NoiseTrade.
‘I Dream of Chicago‘ has become something of a hit for the band and has resonated with residents and former Chicagoans now homesick for the city they love. The song has a way of encapsulating a warmness and sincerity about Chicago that is often lost on those of us who live here. The song makes me think of the dream of Chicago; walking around the city on a cool autumn afternoon or cold winter’s day, rather than the crime riddled streets and midwestern suffocation I typically associate with my home city.
Lead singer and songwriter Dana Halferty could make anything sound gorgeous and poetic and her bandmates compliment her voice perfectly, creating a flawless aural symbiosis.
Their NoiseTrade sampler is a great introduction to their music and is available for free at the moment. (As always with NoiseTrade, if you’re able to leave even the smallest amount as a tip, it means so much to the artists and helps them more than you realize). The sampler features seven tracks; two from the band’s eponymous EP and five from their full length album, All is Here.
The band are frequently on tour around the midwest (sadly, I just missed the numerous Chicago shows they’ve played in the past month or so) and are currently on a tour of the western United States. They’re doing quite a lot of free college campus shows and house concerts in addition to proper gigs. Catch them at small venues while you still can!
