This is an article from guest writer, Lane. She is the world’s coolest 10 year old and, in addition to The Beatles, she loves listening to Emily Danger, Kate Nash and Eliza Doolittle.
She’s a singer in her school’s chorus, a swim team member, clarinetist, softball player, and awesome big sister! She wanted to post this today in honor of Sir Paul McCartney’s birthday. Take it away, Lane be Lane!!
The Beatles by LAO
The Beatles music is one of the most popular kinds of music and will always be remembered.
Forming the Band
In the beginning Paul, George, John, Pete, and Stu were all in the band called “ The Quarrymen.’’ But, before that their drummer was Colin instead of Pete, but he quit when he had a fight with John and Paul. Then, in 1960 they were renamed The Beatles! In 1959 they got a job offer in Germany. But after four months The Beatles were sick of Germany. Everyone, that is except for Stu who had fallen in love. Then, they met a man named Brian Epstein. He wanted to be their new manger. But Brian didn’t want Pete in the band anymore, so they hired a guy named Ringo Starr. So, by 1963 the four members of the band were in place: John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
John Lennon
John (the 2nd oldest Beatle) was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England. His parents were Alfred and Julia Lennon. John’s family didn’t have very much money. John’s father worked on a ship and John’s mother stayed at home. Eventually, John went to live with his grandmother and that’s when he got serious about music.
Ringo Starr
The same year Ringo Starr (AKA Richard Starkey) was born July 7. Ringo had a hard childhood. When he was 6 he needed to his appendix removed. That took about three years staying in the hospital. At the hospital there was a band that went around the hospital playing music for people. When Ringo got home from the hospital he used cookie containers as drums. Then when he was 18 his mother bought him a real drum set. His first band was called The Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group. They played mainly on breaks for workers.
Paul McCartney
Paul was born on June 18, 1942. Paul had long eyelashes, big brown eyes, and shaggy hair. As a kid Paul was chubby. His grades were good especially in Latin, and he had many friends. Like John, Paul loved Elvis Presley. Since Elvis played guitars so did Paul. Then, in 1956 Paul’s mother died. Paul was only 14. Because of this he wrote his first song. He called it “I Lost My Little Girl.’’
George Harrison
George Harrison was a happy boy. He was born on February 25, 1943. Harold, his father, drove a bus and is mother ( Louis) taught ballroom dancing. Music came into George’s life when he was fourteen. The music that was in was called “skiffle.’’ He begged his mother to buy him a guitar. She finally agreed, and bought him one for 5 dollars. But soon he wanted a electric guitar. Before long he and his brother had made a band.
This is beyond awesome! Lane really tells the story well! My favorite line is the first – because the Beatles music is truly a “kind” of music all its own!
A future journalist!!!! Awesome, Lane. Continue to write. We love your style.
